My birthday is coming up next month ( 40 , already??! ). My youngest just started her first nursery school, and I have free time to devote to "Paperila" - my new upcoming etsy shop.
My first mission is
to create a warm and inspiring work space.
My birthday is a great opportunity
to ask my family’s blessing to invest some money and space in my
work space, which is now located between the living room and the
kitchen :). I would like to share my thoughts about home decor and design and invite you to take a peek at my new work space. I love reading design magazines, DIY blogs, and anything to do with home decor and here is my wishlist and three musts to create a beautiful functional inspiring work space:
Colors
Colors are so important for me ( and luckily for my husband too ) and this year home decor trends are all about colors. Bye bye beige and welcome turquoise, blue, purple and yellow.
This is Heather Bailey's amazing studio. What I love about it is it's colors. It creates a soft, romantic atmosphere and the studio looks so warm and inviting. For me, being in a colorful room ( as long as it has the right color mixure ) makes me want to draw or to create something new.
Here's another great example for a dreamy work space (Via Meaghan MacDonald). I love it's calm atmosphere, it reminds me of a sunny cold autumn morning. I feel like making myself a cup of tea, look outside the window and start to create!
In my dreams, my studio will look similar to the one above , but until I can afford a normal size space of my own, my working space will look more like this: ( picture by: Elizabeth Nettles's from :s52.photobucket.com)
I know it is a little crowded, and too colorful, but something about it looks real to me. this person has a small ,carefully organized space that looks comfortable enough. If he had some hidden storage space, even a small colored cabinet, this space would probably be more convenient and will look better.
This bring me to my second must -
Organization
I plan to keep my art materials as tidy as I can. I want my working environment to be organized in a way that I could :easy access all my materials, know were everything is and be proud to let people in my tidy inviting studio :).
Organized work space can make a huge difference in your mood, your desire to work , your productivity and I believe that it can effect the final outcome.
To achieve order you will need storage space and storage smart solutions. For small Items you can use jars, small shoe boxes or small baskets. For medium size items you can use open shelves, drawers, small cabinets or flat boxes. Do not use deep boxes because after a while you don't know what's in it's bottom .For large Items you can use hangers, cabinets or empty appliances boxes . Just make sure every thing fits inside and there's a little beat empty space left, because seeing every thing in order will make you want to shop!.

Great storage idea for small items - jars !
Light
Every one agrees that it is almost impossible to get something meaningful done in a cold dark room.
During the day, natural light is the best. It save energy, it is the most flattering light, pleasant and ecological and can fill you up with great energies. At my place, my work space is facing south. I get to enjoy a lot of natural light, it's a special pleasure during winter sunny days. I love this picture, their office looks inviting and they also have shades for when the sun is too strong.

If you have to use artificial light, lighting can change the atmosphere in the room. Spot illuminates the picture, a lamp that gives light locally. These things will add atmosphere and a personal touch.
